ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION POLICY
Assessment & Certification

Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all assessments, practical evaluations, and certifications carried out at Glo Salon and Academy are fair, consistent, professional, and aligned with industry standards. This policy applies to all students enrolled in accredited and non-accredited training courses delivered by the academy.
1. Assessment Procedures
1.1 Types of Assessment
Students may be assessed through a combination of:
• Practical demonstrations
• Written assignments or worksheets
• Oral questioning
• Portfolio evidence
• Case studies
• Observation of treatment performance
• Client consultations
• Health and safety knowledge checks
Assessment methods will vary depending on the course requirements.
1.2 Assessment Standards
To achieve competency, students must:
• Demonstrate safe and professional working practices
• Meet the required treatment standards
• Follow hygiene, sanitation, and health & safety procedures
• Show adequate product knowledge
• Complete all required coursework and practical assessments
Assessments are conducted by qualified trainers or assessors.
1.3 Practical Assessments
During practical assessments, students are expected to:
• Arrive on time and fully prepared
• Wear the required uniform and PPE where applicable
• Provide suitable models if required
• Maintain professional conduct throughout the assessment
Failure to meet these requirements may result in the assessment being postponed.
2. Reassessment Policy
2.1 Unsuccessful Assessments
If a student does not meet the required standard:
• Constructive feedback will be provided
• Additional training or practice may be recommended
• Students may be offered one or more reassessment opportunities
Additional reassessment fees may apply where stated in course terms and conditions.
2.2 Missed Assessments
Students who fail to attend a scheduled assessment without prior notice may:
• Forfeit the assessment session
• Be charged a rebooking fee
• Need to reschedule subject to availability
Exceptions may be made for genuine emergencies.
3. Certification Requirements
3.1 Eligibility for Certification
Certificates will only be issued once students have:
• Successfully completed all required assessments
• Met attendance requirements
• Submitted all coursework and case studies
• Paid all outstanding course fees
3.2 Certification Timeframes
Certificates are typically issued within:
• 7–21 working days after successful course completion, depending on the awarding body and course type.
Digital or printed certificates may be provided.
3.3 Accredited Courses
For accredited courses:
• Certification may be subject to external verification or moderation by the awarding body.
• Students must comply with all awarding body requirements.
4. Academic Integrity & Professional Conduct
4.1 Authentic Work
Students must submit their own work and complete assessments honestly.
The following are not permitted:
• Plagiarism
• Falsifying case studies
• Cheating during assessments
• Completing work on behalf of another student
Any breach may result in:
• Assessment failure
• Disqualification from certification
• Removal from the course
5. Appeals Procedure
5.1 Assessment Appeals
Students who wish to appeal an assessment decision must:
• Submit the appeal in writing within 7 days of receiving the result
• Clearly explain the reason for the appeal
• Provide supporting evidence where applicable
The academy will review the appeal fairly and respond within a reasonable timeframe.
6. Reasonable Adjustments
Glo Salon and Academy is committed to supporting students with additional learning needs where reasonably possible.
Reasonable adjustments may be considered in line with:
• Equality legislation
• Course requirements
• Health and safety standards
Students are encouraged to disclose support needs before the course begins.
7. Quality Assurance
The academy regularly reviews assessment procedures to ensure:
• Fairness
• Consistency
• Industry relevance
• Compliance with training standards
Internal quality checks and feedback processes may be used to improve training delivery.
